Here at the LaBrum Middle School Campus, the community has started a new monthly activity in which once every month, students may wear jeans or sweatpants if they come in with a college or career preparation shirt. The idea first came about when our new vice principal Dr. Bourque relayed something they used to do at her old school.
Dr. Bourque said, “I have worked closely with the PA chapter 33-9 on college and career readiness, and hoped to be able to bring the idea to LaBrum.”
Eighth grade students were excited about the idea of college wear. Eighth grader Anthony Jakeman said, “It’s an opportunity for kids to show what college they want to go to.” But even with the ups of the activity, eighth grader Haylee Sanders told us she didn’t think it helped.
Dr. Bourque, however, thought the first day of the activity was successful.
But why was the activity started? According to Dr. Bourque, she thought it would be a good way for us students at LaBrum to be aware of a diverse amount of colleges and technical schools.
