Deltarune is a part of the Undertale franchise-- in fact, Deltarune is an anagram of Undertale-- but it is neither a sequel or a prequel. It is an alternate universe; what if the monsters of Undertale were never banished underground?

In Deltarune, you control Kris, the adopted son of Toriel. You arrive at school and try to pick a partner for an upcoming project assigned by your teacher Alphys. You find all the partners are taken and another student, a reindeer monster named Noelle, offers to work in a group of three but is interrupted by a purple dinosaur like monster named Susie. Alphys pairs you together and assigns you to get chalk from the supply closet. When you go inside, you get stuck in the dark closet. Suddenly, you fall down into the dark world. There you meet the dark prince Raslei, then another prince Lancer.

You fight many monsters who are under the rule of the king-- Lancer’s dad. You become a part of a group with Ralsei, Susie, and Lancer. It can have 1 of 3 names depending on your choice: The Fun Gang, The Lancer Fan Club, and The $!$? Squad. I myself chose The Lancer Fan Club and that is what I will be referring to them as. Like an RPG, you can control each member of The Lancer Fan Club in battle. Except for Susie, who will always do her own thing; fighting. Ralsei encourages pacifism while Susie would rather go for genocide.

In my opinion, the best character is Lancer. He is an adorable wacky antagonist who’s plans almost never work. He and Susie’s relationship is basically this: A big bully (Susie) and a little goofball (Lancer).
