Kids See Ghosts by Kids See Ghosts

(8/10)

Kids See Ghosts is the duo of Kanye West and Kid Cudi, both who birthed the new generation of rappers. Kid Cudi had since fallen off, but got better with his last release, “Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin'.” And Kanye’s “Ye” album is also good: talking about his mental health was pretty cool.

I was nervous about this new project because before I heard it, people were saying it sounded like Kid Cudi’s Wzrd project which I didn't like at all. But when I turned it on, it topped my expectations. The first track, “Feel The Love,” is only two minutes, but it is so progressive that it only need two minutes. Pusha T is on this track and gave us a good verse, and Cudi’s hook on this is soaked in reverb, but still sounds really good. When Kanye came on this track and started making gunshots noises on beat with the snare, it sounded strangely good.

On the track “Fire,” we have Kanye talking about how people talk bad about him, but he chooses to ignore it. Cudi then talks about how he turns to God to make himself better. The track ends with this beautiful guitar riff.

The track “4th Dimension” features Kanye bragging, but it’s funny. And Cudi’s verse on that track has him talking about how he went to rehab and got better.

The track “Freeee,” with Ty Dolla Sign, is probably the weakest track. The melodies are good, but there is nothing much going on here.

The track “Reborn” is probably the best track. Kanye’s verse is about how he is dealing with his mental issues and people calling him insane. Cudi’s verse is about how he abused drugs and finding his purpose. But at the end of the verse, he says he is at peace and no longer has the stress that he used to have before he went to rehab.

On the track “Kids” See Ghosts,” featuring Mos Def, Cudi is talking about the same themes from the last track. This the point of the album when I felt I already got everything from it, so why is there more? Kanye talks about how he’s ahead of the game.

The final track, “Cudi Montage,” is good and short. If you’re a Cudi fan, I recommend listening to this, especially if you’re interested in Kanye’s and Cudi’s mental states.
