Many students wonder how two electives-- “Science of Cooking” and “Cooking”-- compare to one another. Why are there two electives that sounded similar? So after LabrumCast wondered about this for while, we actually paid these two electives a visit, sitting on the sidelines for both of the electives.

“Science of Cooking” may sound like you learn about the actual science of cooking, but that’s where you’re wrong. Science of cooking deals with liquids and different types of chemicals. What I observed is that they mix chemicals together to get a reaction. If you are wondering whether, don’t get too excited. They don’t really make many edible things. However, they do use edibles to help make a reaction out of something else. And while they do make a few things that are edible, they taste disgusting.

The “Cooking” elective, on the other hand sees students split up into groups in different stations. While the elective is called “Cooking,” they don’t really cook but they do bake a lot of things. They usually bake little things that everyone can make individually. The cooking elective sometimes likes to have competitions. Sometimes, if they have visitors, they will give you a chance to try their creations depending on whether they are done or not.

The “Science of Cooking” and “Cooking” electives don’t really share a lot of similarities. Although one elective might sound better than the other, you may want to try and see what these two electives can do. Maybe us Labrum students can come up with a event named “Cooking versus Cooking.”
