Emma Haworth-Meehan, a student in 103, is one of the brilliant minds behind the College Wear Pop-Up Shop hosted in the cafeteria during lunchtime on the days right before College Wear Wednesday each month. Mrs. Schwab suggested someone interview Emma about the shop and decided I was good for the job. Here are the questions I asked Emma.

Where do we get the college shirts from that we sell?

Our staff here at LaBrum donates the shirts. Also, Ms. Parker has a friend on the soccer team at St. Joe’s who donated some to us. Mrs. Schwab has also gotten a lot of shirts from her family and friends.

Why are we selling them?

We are selling the shirts because we want students to have pride in the different colleges they can go to, and some families do not have any college wear for the kids to dress in so we make it available for them at a reasonable price.

How is the sale prepared?

I start by separating the clothes by grade and making sure there are an even number of shirts for each grade to look at. Once organized, the shirts are sold during lunch hours for $1.00 each.

What does the school do with the money?

The money goes towards student activities like raffle prizes. We were able to buy pizza for raffle winners one week, and we also purchased Dunkin’ Donuts gift cards for our Mega-Raffle winners at the end of the first marking period with the money we made from the sales.
